:: BELMONT UNIVERSITY TEACHING ::

During the Fall semester, I teach  two courses at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. Both courses offer students insight into various parts of the touring industry. The courses are designed in a way that the students can directly apply lessons learned in class to the student run shows that are held on campus six times a year.

TOUR PRODUCTION:
A 3 credit hour course that covers in depth the roles of Tour and Production Managers, including paperwork, contracts, and a mock tour project. Students also create their own templates of popular documents used in touring (riders, day sheets, accounting forms, etc.). Guest speakers are utilized to give students detailed explanations into all facets of this side of touring.

PRODUCTION DESIGN:
A 3 credit hour course that first covers the technical side of lighting - discussing power, fixtures, troubleshooting, truss, etc. Later in the semester, students work on three separate design projects covering the different size venues seen in touring - clubs, theaters, and arenas. Console training is also done as part of the class.

Several students have already completed these courses and have gone on to begin their own careers in the touring industry.
